Hello everyone!
We are still working out a few Zoom session links and will have all the information to you by 9pm tonight. Until then, don't panic, we haven't forgotten about you :). The website will be updated once the email has gone out. Also, we have closed the registration link to ensure no one misses out on the email. However, if you would still like to join us, please send us an email and we will get the information to you. Thank you for your patience, Janice and Carrie

We are gearing up for this Saturday's event and it's great to see the suggestions participants are posting on the Jamboard. Please get your suggestions in by the 5pm Tuesday, as we will be setting up sessions at that point. If you missed the email with the details on how to add your ideas, check your spam or see the blog post below.
From your comments, we wanted to be clear about one thing - the EdCampBCCC sessions will NOT be recorded. We want to encourage open discussions and respect everyone's privacy. As always, we will have the Google Docs for those who cannot attend the event and who want to see what great conversations were had or resources were shared. You can access those here starting on January 23rd. We are looking forward to seeing you virtually Saturday. If you have any questions before then, please email us at edcampbccc@gmail.com or Tweet at us! Janice and Carrie We are starting to collect your ideas for our virtual Ed Camp on January 23rd. For those of you who are new to the Ed Camp model, the schedule of the day is usually done the morning of the workshop, built from the ideas of those in attendance. The richness of an Ed Camp is allowing participants to talk about what is important to them. To do this, we need your suggestions of topics. Due to us moving online this year, we are trying a new way to get suggestions to build up our sessions. You can add your idea on a Jamboard we have created for this event. Once you have accessed the Jamboard, choose a sticky from the menu on the left. Write your idea on a sticky, choose a colour if you would like, then post it to the Jamboard. You can then move your sticky to another area of the Jamboard if it is blocking another sticky. Please limit yourself to one idea per sticky, but feel free to add as many stickies (topics) as you would like. As we get closer to EdcampBCCC, Janice and Carrie will be grouping similar options and creating the sessions. We will send out the final session list and the links to participate in those sessions virtually in the days before the Ed Camp.
Until then, keep inviting educators, parents, students, trustees, teacher candidates, etc. to join us to share in the conversation. We are thankful to have an online platform this year to include more voices from across the province, across interests and across ages. We are looking forward to our discussions at EdCampBCCC! Janice and Carrie EdCampBCCC is going virtual for it's 4th edition! Approximately two weeks prior to the event, you will receive a link to the Jamboard we will be using to propose topics and instructions on how to vote on what you would like to discuss during the sessions. A few days before the event, you will receive the session links. We are looking forward to seeing you all online in the new year. Janice and Carrie On January 18th 2020, we held our third annual EdCampBCCC - the only EdCamp dedicated to Core Competencies. Many dedicated educators braved snow storms and an early Saturday morning to share around topics who are important to them. We even had some online participants through our Google Docs. There were lots of discussions about how we would move forward with EdCampBCCC - has it run its course, is it time to focus on something new?
I think that the situation we are all living through right now is making us think of our professional and personal life in an entirely different way. Through this, what questions or topics are you wondering about that we may be able to support long-term at a future event? Send us an email at edcampbccc@gmail.com or comment here to let us know. Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay home. We are looking forward to seeing you this Saturday at École McRoberts in Richmond. Until then, take a moment to look through your bookshelves and find a book or two you are ready to part with for our educational book swap! Events like this cannot run without people like you.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday! Carrie and Janet Registration has already launched for the 3rd edition of EdCampBCCC, the only EdCamp that focusses on BC's Core Competencies. We are looking forward to the conversations and learning that will occur now that the final versions of the CCs have been released on the Ministry of Education's website.
We are inviting anyone with an interest in education - teachers, students, administration, parents, trustees, etc. - to join us on Saturday, January 18th 2020 at École McRoberts Secondary School in Richmond. You can find more details here and register for the event here. After EdCampBCCC, the conversations continue with a live edition of the #BCEDChat twitter chats! Continue the conversations over food and drinks at Steveston Built Local Taphouse and Grill. Sign up here to join us! We are looking forward to learning with you all in January! Carrie and Janice We are happy to announce that registration is now live for the third annual EdCampBCCC, BC's EdCamp with a focus on Core Competencies. With the final version of the Core Competencies being released last week, we are looking forward to seeing how these changes impact our discussions!
Here is our tentative schedule for the day : 8.00 am until 8.40 - Session proposals and voting, Resource Sharing 8.40 until 9am - Welcome, Group Norms, and Session organization 9.05 until 10.00 - Session 1 10.00 until 10.10 - Break 1 10.10 until 11.10 - Session 2 11.10 until 11.20 - Break 2 11.20 until 12.20 - Session 3 12. 25 until 12.45 pm - Closing message and Prize draw Along with our great sessions, decided by YOU the morning of the EdCamp, here are some changes we are making to make EdCampBCCC more accessible to everyone. 1 - Parents' Session - We want more parents involved in the discussions, and acknowledge that a barrier may be their understanding of the CCs. We are hoping to offer an overview session that will allow them to understand the gist of the Core Competencies before heading to the open sessions. 2 - Secondary Sessions - We are going to ensure that at least one topic per session time is offered for Secondary Teachers. 3 - Sharing time - In the morning as participants arrive, add their topics, and vote for their choice of sessions, we would love to have you share what you have been doing. This is a great opportunity for conversations around templates, documents, videos, examples, etc. that you have created and want to share with others. (Please note, all sharing should be of FREE resources, not items that are being sold, and respect the privacy of the students if you are sharing examples.) Along with these changes, we will also host a book exchange as we did last year. Bring an education book to leave on our exchange table, and leave with a new-to-you book. As always, parents, students, community members with an interest in education, teacher candidates, etc. are all welcome at this EdCamp! Spread the word - we are hoping to have more participants from various experiences as this enriches our discussions. We are so looking forward to seeing you all in January. Carrie and Janice EdCampBCCC will be back for a 3rd edition on January 18th, 2020 at École McRoberts Secondary School. More details to come soon! Hope to see you there!
Janice and Carrie Yesterday, 70 educators from around the province converged on École McRoberts Secondary to share their journey through Core Competencies. From Kamloops, Smithers, Prince George, Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and all around the Lower Mainland, everyone shares a passion for education that shines through during the great discussions we have.
From our first event last year to this year’s EdCamp, it is clear that we are all on a journey that started first by trying to understand the core competencies. What great strides we have all taken in this past year! We can't wait to see what our conversations will look like next year as we continue further along in this journey! As we work out the details for next year's event, please continue to visit the session boards from this year and from last. The links to the Session Google Docs are all available, and they are full of resources! Feel free to continue to add to them as we continue this journey. Until next time, thank you for embarking on this journey with us. The EdCampBCCC team |
EdCampBCCC was founded by Janice Novakowski (SD 38) and Carrie Antoniazzi (SD 93) as a place where educators from different School Districts and Educational Settings in British Columbia could come together and share their best practices, ask questions, gain support, and learn to take risks, all around BC's Core Competencies.
